Louisiana Law sets what bail bondsmen are allowed to charge to get someone out of jail, so while you may find a difference in regards to down payments and financing options between different bail bond companies, the actual price to bail someone one out is the same everywhere.
The price is determined not just by the total bond amount, but also by how many charges there are. The price to bond someone out is comprised of three parts: The application fee, jail fees, and the premium. The application fee is always $25 for each defendant. The jail fees are $15 per charge in city courts and $30 per charge in district court.
As for the premium, that's where it can start to get a little confusing. In regards to the premium, LA Revised Statutes § 22:1443, Louisiana law establishes a fixed premium rate for commercial criminal bail bonds: “The rate…shall be twelve percent of the face amount of the bond or one hundred twenty dollars, whichever is greater." This means that any bond that's $1000 or less costs the same. This also means that a $100 bond would still cost $175 to post bail on (in district court), so if that's all you're charged with you'd be better off posting the full amount yourself.
What This Means For You
Because of the minimum charge, two smaller bonds can sometimes cost more than one larger bond. For example, three $100 bonds (total $300 in bonds) would cost $475 to post bail, but two $1000 bonds (total $2000 in bonds), would cost $325 to post bail because there are fewer charges.
